0. Read this first

These Terms are a binding agreement between you and the developer and operator of Jigi. If you use Jigi, you agree to them.

Most of this document is ordinary. Five things are not, and you should read them before you use the agent:

  1. Jigi includes an AI agent that acts as you. When it sends a message, that message is sent from your account, in your name, and is treated as your message — by us, by the person receiving it, and under these Terms. (§5)
  2. The agent makes mistakes. It can misunderstand you, message the wrong person, say something you would not have said, or record something untrue. This is a property of the technology. It is not a fault we have failed to fix. (§6)
  3. You are responsible for what the agent does for you. You direct it, you can supervise every action, and you can switch it off entirely at any moment. What it sends on your instruction is yours. (§7)
  4. Jigi is provided “as is”, with no warranties, and our liability to you is limited. (§13, §14)
  5. Do not rely on the agent for anything that matters if it goes wrong — medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or legally binding matters. (§6.4)

If you do not accept these Terms, do not use Jigi. If you have already installed it, you can stop at any time by deleting your account.

1. Who these Terms are with

Jigi is built and operated by an independent developer based in India (“we”, “us”, “our”). Jigi is not operated by a company.

“You” means the person using Jigi. Jigi is for personal use by individuals.

Contact: hello@jigi.chat

2. Accepting these Terms

You accept these Terms by creating an account or by using Jigi. If you do not accept them, you must not use Jigi.

These Terms work together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your personal data and is part of your agreement with us. Where the Privacy Policy describes how something works and these Terms allocate legal responsibility for it, both apply.

3. Who may use Jigi

You must be at least 13 years old.

If you are under 18, you may use Jigi only with the permission of your parent or legal guardian. By creating an account you confirm that you meet the minimum age and, if you are under 18, that you have that permission.

You must also:

  • provide a phone number you control and are entitled to use;
  • not be barred from using Jigi under any applicable law; and
  • not have had a previous account terminated by us for breach of these Terms, unless we agree in writing.

One account per person. Your account is personal to you. Do not share it, sell it, transfer it, or let anyone else use it.

4. Your account and your phone number

Your phone number is your identity on Jigi. You are responsible for:

  • keeping access to it. If you lose control of your number, someone else may be able to register it and you may lose access to your account. Tell us immediately if that happens.
  • your device’s security. Anything done through a signed-in device is treated as done by you.
  • everything that happens under your account, including everything the agent does at your direction (§7).

We may require re-verification of your number at any time. We do not store your password — sign-in is by one-time code to your number, handled by our authentication provider.

One phone at a time. Your account can be signed in on one phone at a time. Signing in on a new phone signs the old one out.

5. What Jigi is

Jigi is a messaging and calling application with an AI agent attached to your account.

Messaging. You send and receive messages and photos with other Jigi users. We transmit and store them so the service works. We do not moderate or review your conversations in the ordinary course.

Calls. You can make voice and video calls to other Jigi users, with up to 8 people in a call, and share your screen. Calls are end-to-end encrypted: we relay them but cannot hear or see them, and we do not record them. Jigi calls connect only Jigi users. They cannot reach emergency services or any phone number, and Jigi is not a replacement for a phone service.

Voice dictation. You can speak instead of typing. Your voice is sent to a speech-recognition provider to turn it into text, as described in the Privacy Policy (§10). The text is not sent to anyone until you send it.

The agent. An AI system that can act on your behalf inside Jigi. On your instruction it can:

  • read your conversations, so it has the context to act;
  • send messages to people you have chosen — either after asking you, or without asking if you have given it a standing approval for that contact;
  • act later: carry out an action you approved at a set time, wait for someone’s reply and decide what to do next, or — if you approve a reply in advance — answer people who message you while it is watching, for up to 24 hours;
  • stop contacting a person who has asked not to be contacted;
  • keep memories: short notes of things it judges useful to remember, including things it learns from its own work unless you switch that off;
  • create and run tasks, each keeping a complete record of what it was asked, what it decided, and what it did.

What the agent cannot do. It cannot see the contents of images — a photo reaches it as the word [photo] and your caption, nothing more. It cannot send photos or any other media. It cannot place, hear or see calls. It cannot give itself permission: standing approvals, and replies it sends while watching, can only come from your own approval.

Jigi is early software. Features will change, break, and be removed. We may add, modify, suspend or discontinue any part of Jigi at any time.

6. The AI agent — what you must understand before using it

This section is the most important in these Terms. We have written it plainly rather than burying it.

6.1 It is an AI system, and AI systems get things wrong

The agent will sometimes be wrong. This is inherent to the technology, not a defect we have failed to correct, and no amount of engineering removes it.

Without limitation, the agent may:

  • misunderstand your instruction, or act on a meaning you did not intend;
  • misidentify a person — messaging the wrong contact with the right message;
  • misread a conversation, including tone, urgency, sarcasm, or context;
  • send a message you would not have sent, or phrase something in a way you would not have chosen;
  • act on stale information that was true when recorded and is not now;
  • record a memory that is wrong, incomplete, or unfair to you or to someone else;
  • produce text that is inaccurate, inappropriate, or offensive;
  • act at the wrong time, or fail to act when you expected it to;
  • carry out something you approved earlier after circumstances have changed;
  • fail entirely, or stop mid-task.

6.2 We do not review what it sends

Messages the agent sends leave your account without any human at Jigi seeing them. There is no review step on our side, and none is promised. The supervision controls are yours (§6.3).

6.3 Your controls — and your duty to use them

We give you the means to supervise the agent. You are expected to use them:

  • Approval before acting. By default the agent asks you before it messages anyone on your behalf.
  • Standing approvals you may grant per contact. If you grant one, you are accepting messages sent to that contact without individual review — that is the point of it, and the consequences are yours.
  • Replies approved in advance. If you approve a reply for the agent to send while it watches for messages, it is sent to each person it applies to, without asking you again, for as long as the watch lasts.
  • Scheduled actions. An action you approve for later runs at its time without asking you again. Changing your instructions before then cancels it.
  • Stop the agent contacting a specific person, at any time.
  • The switch. You can turn the agent off completely. Everything it is doing stops, and it cannot act for you again until you turn it back on.
  • The record. Every task keeps a full history you can read.

You must review the agent’s activity periodically. If it is behaving in a way you do not want, turn it off. Continuing to let it act after you knew or should have known it was misbehaving is your decision and your responsibility.

6.4 No reliance

Do not rely on the agent where an error would cause harm. Jigi is a convenience, not a professional service.

The agent’s output is not medical, legal, financial, tax, psychological, or professional advice of any kind. Do not use it for anything safety-critical, time-critical in an emergency, legally binding, or where money, health, safety or legal rights turn on it being right.

Jigi must never be used to contact emergency services or to communicate anything urgent about someone’s safety. Jigi calls cannot reach emergency numbers at all (§5).

6.5 Third-party AI and speech providers

The agent works by sending text to AI providers outside India, and dictation works by sending your voice to speech-recognition providers. Which providers, what they receive, whether they train on it, and how long they keep it are all set out in our Privacy Policy (§5.2, §10 and Annex A). Your use of the agent and of dictation involves that processing; if you do not want it, do not use them.

Those providers’ own errors, outages and changes affect the agent, and we do not control them.

7. You are responsible for what the agent does for you

7.1 The agent acts as you

You appoint the agent as your tool, acting on your instructions. It is not an independent party and it is not our spokesman.

Accordingly, and for all purposes under these Terms:

  • Instructions you give the agent are your instructions.
  • Permissions you grant it are your permissions, including standing approvals.
  • Every message it sends is your message — sent from your account, in your name, to a recipient who reasonably understands it to come from you. You are its author and sender as between you and us, and as between you and the recipient.
  • Its actions inside Jigi are your actions.

7.2 What this means in practice

You are responsible for the consequences of what the agent sends, including where it made a mistake, and including messages sent under a standing approval you granted.

If the agent sends something that offends, misleads, harms, or creates liability towards another person, that is your message and your responsibility. We are not the author, not the sender, and not a party to your conversations.

7.3 What we are responsible for

We are responsible for operating Jigi with reasonable care — running the service, protecting your data as set out in the Privacy Policy, and providing the controls in §6.3 so you can supervise the agent.

We are not responsible for the content of what the agent generates or sends at your direction, subject always to §14.4 (the liabilities we do not exclude).

8. Acceptable use

You must not use Jigi, or the agent, to:

Harm people

  • harass, threaten, stalk, bully, defame or impersonate anyone — including by calling them repeatedly or adding them to calls they do not want;
  • record, capture or share someone’s call, video or screen without the consent the law requires;
  • send sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises a child — we report this and terminate immediately, without notice;
  • promote self-harm, violence, or terrorism;
  • share someone’s private information without their consent.

Break the law

  • do anything unlawful under Indian law or the law that applies to you;
  • infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
  • send content prohibited by the Information Technology Act 2000 and the rules under it.

Abuse the messaging system

  • send bulk, unsolicited, automated or commercial messages — using the agent to do it at scale is a serious breach, not a clever use;
  • run marketing, spam, phishing, scams or fraudulent schemes;
  • message people who have asked you to stop.

Abuse the agent or the platform

  • feed the agent personal data about other people that you have no right to share;
  • try to make the agent produce prohibited content, or manipulate it into bypassing its restrictions;
  • circumvent rate limits, approval requirements, blocks, or the agent switch;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract our models, prompts, or source;
  • access Jigi by automated means, or build a competing service from it;
  • probe, load-test, or attack the service, or attempt to access another user’s account or data.

You are responsible for your contacts. When you sync contacts or discuss other people with the agent, you confirm you are entitled to share that information. This is also your duty as a Data Principal under §15 of the DPDP Act.

We may investigate suspected breaches and take the actions in §11.

9. Your content

You keep ownership of your content — your messages, photos, captions, what you say on calls and in dictation, and feedback. We claim no ownership of it.

The licence you give us. To operate Jigi, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit, reproduce and process your content, and to create the derivatives the service needs (re-encoded and metadata-stripped images, thumbnails, text transcribed from your dictation). For calls, this means relaying encrypted media we cannot read; we never store it. This licence exists only to run and improve Jigi, lasts only as long as we hold the content under the Privacy Policy, and ends when the content is deleted.

We do not use your messages or photos for advertising. We do not sell them. We do not publish them.

Feedback you send us may be used to fix and improve Jigi, indefinitely, as described in the Privacy Policy §11. If you send us a suggestion, we may implement it without owing you anything for it.

Content of others. Messages you receive belong to the people who sent them. Deleting your account does not delete messages you sent to other people from their conversations — see Privacy Policy §15.

10. Availability, changes and cost

Jigi is free today. If we introduce charges, we will tell you before they apply to you and you will be able to stop using the paid parts.

Fair-use limits apply, including on messages, uploads, storage, calls, dictation time and agent activity. We may change them, and may throttle or refuse requests that exceed them or that threaten the service.

We do not promise uptime. Jigi may be unavailable for maintenance, or because of a failure at us or at a provider we depend on. We will try to minimise disruption; we do not guarantee it.

We may change Jigi — adding, altering, suspending or removing features, including the agent or any of its capabilities, at any time.

11. Suspension and termination

You may leave at any time by deleting your account in the app. Deletion is immediate and irreversible; what is destroyed and what survives is set out in the Privacy Policy §15.

We may suspend or terminate your account where:

  • you breach these Terms, in particular §8;
  • your use threatens the security, integrity or availability of Jigi, or harms another user;
  • we are required to by law; or
  • we stop operating Jigi.

Notice. We will give you reasonable notice and a reason where we can. We may act without prior notice where the breach is serious, unlawful, or presents a risk to others — including anything involving a child, credible threats, or an active attack on the service.

Appeals. If you believe we acted wrongly, write to hello@jigi.chat. We will review it under §15.

What survives termination. §7 (responsibility), §9 (licence, to the extent content is still held), §13, §14, §15, §16 and §17 continue to apply.

12. Other people’s services

Jigi runs on third-party services — for sign-in, the AI agent, voice dictation, file storage, notifications, monitoring and hosting — and your device, phone number and network are your own. Those providers run their own systems under their own terms. Their failures, changes, security incidents and handling of data under their own terms are outside our control, and to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for them. Where a provider processes your personal data, the Privacy Policy Annex A names them.

13. No warranties

Jigi is provided “as is” and “as available”.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, conditions or representations of any kind, express or implied, including as to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, quiet enjoyment, or accuracy.

Specifically, we do not warrant that:

  • Jigi will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free;
  • messages will always be delivered, delivered promptly, or delivered at all;
  • calls will connect, stay connected, or be of any particular quality;
  • dictation will transcribe what you said accurately;
  • anything the agent produces will be accurate, appropriate, complete or suitable for any purpose;
  • the agent will correctly understand you, or act as you intended;
  • defects will be corrected, or that Jigi is free of harmful components;
  • any result you hope to obtain from using Jigi will be obtained.

Nothing you receive from us, in any form, creates a warranty we have not given here.

This section does not exclude anything that cannot lawfully be excluded. See §14.4.

14. Limitation of liability

14.1 What we exclude

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages;
  • loss of profits, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill or reputation;
  • loss, corruption or unavailability of data;
  • the content, meaning or consequences of anything the agent generated or sent, including messages sent under a standing approval you granted;
  • anything another user does, including what they do with a message you or your agent sent them, or with anything they saw or heard on a call with you — such as recording, screenshotting or forwarding it;
  • acts or omissions of a third-party provider named in the Privacy Policy Annex A, including any loss, misuse or unauthorised disclosure of data while it is in that provider’s hands;
  • unauthorised access to your account or data that results from the loss, theft or compromise of your phone or phone number, from malware on your device, or from an attack despite our reasonable security measures;
  • failure or delay in message delivery, or calls that fail, drop or are of poor quality;
  • errors in dictated text that you send without correcting;
  • outages, errors or changes at a third-party provider we depend on;
  • your failure to use the controls in §6.3, including leaving the agent enabled when you knew or should have known it was misbehaving;
  • your reliance on the agent contrary to §6.4.

This applies however the liability arises — contract, tort, negligence, statute or otherwise — and whether or not we were warned the loss was possible.

14.2 The cap

Where we are liable, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to Jigi is limited to the greater of:

  • (a) the total amount you actually paid us for Jigi in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
  • (b) ₹5,000 (five thousand Indian Rupees).

Jigi is currently free, so in almost all cases this cap is ₹5,000.

14.3 Why the limits are what they are

Jigi is provided free of charge by an individual developer. These limits reflect that: without them the service could not be offered at all. You accept them as a condition of using Jigi, and they are a fundamental basis of this agreement.

14.4 What we do NOT exclude or limit

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
  • gross negligence or wilful misconduct;
  • our obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, or any other liability to a regulator that cannot lawfully be limited; or
  • anything else that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit — including rights you have as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 that cannot be contracted away.

If you are a consumer, these Terms do not take away your statutory rights.

14.5 If a limit is held unenforceable

If any exclusion or limit in §13 or §14 is found unenforceable or unreasonable in whole or in part, it applies to the maximum extent permitted by law rather than failing entirely, and the remainder of these Terms stays in force.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or connected with:

  • your use of Jigi, and your content — including what you say or share on calls, and any recording of a call you make;
  • any message sent from your account, including one the agent sent at your direction or under a standing approval you granted;
  • your breach of these Terms, in particular §8;
  • your violation of any law, or of anyone’s rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
  • information about other people you gave us without being entitled to.

This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from something we are responsible for and cannot exclude under §14.4. We will tell you promptly about any claim we seek indemnity for, and you may participate in its defence; do not settle anything that admits fault on our behalf or binds us without our written agreement.

16. Complaints and grievances

We take complaints seriously and we answer them on a published timetable.

Email our Grievance Officer: hello@jigi.chat

Write to us about anything: content you object to, another user’s conduct, something the agent did, an account action we took, or a privacy matter.

Our timetable, as required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021:

  • we acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours; and
  • we resolve it within 15 days of receiving it.

For a privacy request under the DPDP Act, the same channel and the same timetable apply.

Content takedowns. Tell us what the content is, where it is, and why it should be removed. We remove content unlawful under Indian law, and content breaching §8, within the timeframes the law requires. We may need to contact you for more detail.

If we cannot resolve it. For privacy matters you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India. For consumer matters you may approach the appropriate consumer forum. Your right to do so does not depend on coming to us first.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.

The courts at Mohali, India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or Jigi, and you and we both submit to that jurisdiction.

Nothing here prevents either of us from seeking urgent injunctive relief in any competent court, or affects a consumer’s right to approach a consumer forum where the law allows.

Before going to court, please write to hello@jigi.chat and give us 30 days to resolve it. Most problems are a misunderstanding, and this is faster for both of us.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms.

  • For a material change — one that meaningfully reduces your rights or increases your obligations — we will notify you in the app before it takes effect, and give you a reasonable period to review it. Continuing to use Jigi after it takes effect means you accept it. If you do not accept it, stop using Jigi and delete your account.
  • For corrections and clarifications, we update the document and revise the date.
  • Every version is recorded in our change log.

We will not apply a material change retrospectively to something that already happened.

19. General

Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about Jigi, and replace anything said before.

Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable, or severed if that is not possible. The rest stays in force. §14.5 applies to §13 and §14.

No waiver. If we do not enforce something immediately, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.

Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to a successor if Jigi is transferred, on notice to you and on terms no less protective of you.

Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for failure caused by something outside our reasonable control — including network or provider failure, power loss, natural disaster, act of government, or war.

No agency. These Terms do not create a partnership, employment or agency relationship between us. (The agent acts as your tool under §7, not as ours.)

Language. These Terms are written in English. A translation is for convenience; the English version governs.

Survival. The sections named in §11 continue after your account ends.
